One question I encounter frequently online is as to whether
one can apply for a Kenya NSSF number online. Lately, it has become possible to
apply for and access all manner of government services online. Thus just as it is
possible to apply for a KRA pin online and just as it is possible to
even renew Kenya driving license online, people expect it to be also
possible to apply for a Kenya NSSF number online.
But is actually possible to apply for a Kenya NSSF number
online?
Well, when you visit the Kenya NSSF self service portal, you
will notice that there is a member registration link, under the member self
service link. When you click on the said member registration link, you are
taken to a screen where you are supposed to fill in a form. Filling in that
form should, at the very least, be the first step in the journey towards
getting a NSSF number. So, at the very least, it is possible to initiate the
process of applying for a Kenya NSSF number online.
The
NSSF Kenya self service portal we made reference to can be accessed at
selfservice.nssf.or.ke. When you enter that address into your browser, the NSSF
Kenya self service portal appears on your screen. Yours then is to run your
mouse over the ‘member self service’ link on the main menu at the top, then
click on the ‘member registration’ link. In the screen you are taken to, you
should fill in details like your preferred username and password. Then you
would be required to complete the form, with among other details, your
nationality, names, ID number, employer ID and your permanent address. All said
and done, applying for a Kenya NSSF number online is a straightforward affair. The
only detail you may have challenges with is employer ID. But you should be able
to obtain that with ease from your employer’s HR office. They also have this
requirement to enter a birth certificate number, though apparently that is no
mandatory. The most important thing is to ensure that the details you enter are
accurate, knowing that they will come in handy in the future when you go to
claim your pension from NSSF.
